Blitz Tournament 0029 reaches finals!

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard, AKA CSY)

Last October, there were 22 participants in Blitz Tournament 0029. Fast forward six and a half months worth of destruction and smack talking, and this tournament has officially reached the finals!

This round represent the best of the challengers so far, and they will be required to beat a best of 7 games before claiming the grand prize: Three shiny months of premium membership proudly provided by the Planets Nu team! Now I would like to introduce our two finalists.

In the red corner, we have the veteran player JoeSnoffy. He has been honing his skills behind and scenes, and is ready to test his mettle against his final opponent. In the blue corner, we have the supreme commander of two races, Emork the Lizard King. He is a masterful player, and his skills will also be put to the final test.

Nonetheless, even though the rest of the players have been eliminated, two semi-finalists, Ted and Azzazzello, still have one last chance to earn something from this tournament.

Spectators and past players may have a detailed look at the bracket and history. Good luck to the remaining players!

Blitz Update April 2014

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard, AKA CSY)

This update comes with amazing timing: Round 3 (the round of 8) has been concluded, with Azzazzello and JoeSnoffy winning the round and advancing to the Semi-Finals where they will fight each other.

The winner of the pairing in question will advance to the Finals where Emork is waiting. The loser will be demoted to the consolation pairing, and will play along with Ted to see who claims third place.

Keep in mind that, unlike previous pairings, the Semi-Finals is a best of five! One player must win three games in order to advance. Good luck to the remaining players.

Current Bracket

March 2014 Update

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

Since last month, I finally have some moderately exciting news: Blitz Tournament 0029 has now advanced to Round 3 (Ro8). Of course, it feels like it is more of a round of 4, as the bottom half of the bracket has long been resolved.

Of course, these new pairings have only just gotten started, as the last of the previous round’s pairing had rolled off last week, with Big Beefer knocking out the previous tournament’s champion, JKovalainen.

February 2014 Update

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

It has been three months since the previous update. Match ups have progressed at varying speeds, from a couple pairings still playing round 2, to a finalist whom will be waiting until nearly all other pairings have been resolved. As usual, more details can be found on the detailed bracket page, which also houses detailed history.

Congratulations goes to Emork the Lizard King for advancing to the finals! I look forward to seeing some epic clashes in the finals.

November 2013 Update

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

It’s been six months since the initial announcement. At this point, most issues have been ironed out. All potential match ups that were made at kick off has progressed at varying speeds, with a couple having been completed each in Rounds 1 and 2.

Although the bracket has since moved on to the next post, it is still available from here.

Blitz Tournament 0029 finally kicks off!

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

At long last Blitz Tournament 0029 is finally ready to kick off! After two weeks of rounding up players, we have finally landed at 22 players. As this number is not a power of 2, some players will not be competing in Round 1.

For any curious newcomers, a blitz tournament is an organized event where players Continue reading

Blitz Tournament 0029 starting soon…

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

After much deliberation, it has been decided that Blitz Tournament 0029: Breakthru the 4th Dimension will start on October 7, regardless of the number of players participating in the tournament. Five months is long enough, and I will use this tournament as a reminder to reduce the size back to 16 in future tournaments until the popularity actually warrants an increase.

I have spoken to Joshua concerning this matter, and he has Continue reading

September 2013 Update

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

The clock recently struck midnight on UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). August 2013 is now over, along with the grace period that came within regarding racial selections. Despite that, I still offer a 24-48 hour grace period, compared to when the last slot was filled, for changing options before actually revealing the races and bracket.

Planets Nu came with three significant evolutions over the course of August 2013. The least notable (compared to the controversial tenacity, and the updated activity feed), of these evolutions is the updated Private Messaging system. This should make it much easier to exchange messages amongst us blitzers, as well as being better able to communicate with me, who will serve exclusively as host and mediator.

We’re close to finishing the sign up process. Only two open slots remain.

Intro to Blitz Tournaments

(written by ChallengeSpaceYard)

What is a blitz tournament? It’s a competitive event where players compete 1 vs. 1 using the Blitz game format that Planets Nu supported since February 2011.

As noted, Blitz Tournament 0029 is the third blitz tournament hosted on Planets Nu. The previous blitz tournaments (0008 and 0013) were an amazing success.

I’ve put some links below for your convenience. At this time, only 6 signups remain.

Tournament Regulations

Regulations last updated: 7:02 AM, October 17, 2013

  • Players will be organized by their single-race highest rank (known as the account rank). Players within each rank will be shuffled and then seeded.
  • Players should have at least one year of VGA Planets 3.0/PHost/Nu experience and/or some blitz experience before they sign up for this tournament.
  • Players are required to pick a primary race, which they must use in the first game of each pairing. They are recommended to have a secondary race that they may fall back to. They will be the only two races allowed throughout the tournament, and should not be published while there are open slots.
  • Each pairing will play a best of 3 games. The only exceptions towards this rule are the semifinals (best of 5), third place consolation (also best of 5), and the final round (best of 7). While missing 1 turn will cause a player to lose a game, it does not necessarily eliminate that player.
  • Players may agree who is to host the first game in each pairing. The next player who must host is the winner of the previous game. All game IDs must be disclosed no later than turn 5 for each game.
  • Any deviations from the typical everyday schedule must be approved by CSY.
  • In the event there is a problem setting up the game(s), CSY must be contacted by the players involved in the affected pairing(s). If he receives incomplete contact in any pairing, he will disqualify the players that did not contact him.
