Planets Academy

(Archived content — by SpaceSquad)

Planets Academy is a mobile version of Planets.  Due to its reduced complexity it is a perfect start for young midshipmen to test their strategic skills before they take command in a cluster (classic game).

Currently Planets Academy is available for Android only. IOS Version will follow in a couple of month as soon as the Alpha test have been completed. Gameplay, Interface and mechanics will be adjusted during the Alpha test. This post will help try to keep all information available together and support the documentation Team of Planets.NU.

The Empire of the Birds
The Fascist Empire
The Robotic Imperium
The Rebel Confederation
The Missing Colonies of Man

The Map:

The Planets Academy map shows a single solar system. The Star is located in the center and you have 200 Planets available for colonization. Instead of light years (ly) distance is measured in Astronomic Units (au).

Ranges:
– sensor sweep range 5 au
– mine sweep range 1 au
– the ship scan range (how far away you can detect enemy ships in open space) is 7 au
– fighter sweep range 3 au

Economy:

Only 3 Minerals are available in Planets Academy: Duranium, Tritanium and Molebdenium. Those 3 resources can be mined on colonized planets and will be automatically uploaded to the solarsystems stockpile. The minerals section on a planet shows you the amount of each mineral in-ground and the amount of minerals you will mine next turn (+xxx) next to it. The density of each mineral in the ground is indicated by color.

Mineral density color code:
Low -orange
Normal -gray
High – green

Factories will produce 1 megacredit per turn.

Tax:
Natives will be taxed at a fixed rate automatically. Max income for a planet is shown when you own it, and to tax 100mcs you need to have 100 colonist on the planet. To raise your income you need to bring more clans to the planet till you reach the max tax limit. The max tax limit includes the factory output.
Max Tax = Native tax + colonist tax + factory production

Natives:
Natives will grow depending on the temperature.
Avians will generate more taxes per native as they are automatically taxed higher.
Insectoids have double tax rate.
Reptillians have double mining rate
Bovinoids create 1 extra mcs per turn

Ships:

Ship missions are:
– exploration
– sensor sweep (5 au range)
– mine sweep (1 au range)
– lay mines
– intercept
– cloak
– HYP and glory device settings still possible through separate setting
Ships can only load clans or ammo (fighters or torpedoes)
To repair a ship you need to move it to your starbase; while in orbit, it will automatically be repaired.

Starbases:

Starbases will build and repair ships
Only planets with 1000+ clans can build starbases
When building a ship on a Starbasae with more then 10.000 clans, the cargo will be filled with clans automatically.

  1. You might want to add that you can only build fighter at Starbases. Quite a strategic difference for players used to “lfm” and the “Build Fighter” mission.

  2. Same for Torps and mkt of course. And two sentences in BigBeefers Howto disturbs me even more:
    – Cannot transfer between ships
    – Cannot transfer fighters to ships

That means when a big carrier is empty you MUST go back to some Starbase to re-stock. Only good thing is the global resource pool that allows you to build at any base.
